General Interest/Area of Focus

Eve Hargrave’s interests lie in the area of bioarchaeology of Eastern North America, particularly how it pertains to the relationship between social and demographic changes and mortuary studies. Most of her recent research has focused upon late prehistoric mortuary practices of Native Americans in Illinois-particularly in the area of the American Bottom around Cahokia.

Previous Positions

1996 Laboratory Director/Physical Anthropologist, ITARP, University of Illinois. Supervised students in the processing and curation of archaeological materials. Inventoried both prehistoric and historic materials collected during Phase I and Phase II surveys throughout the state. Assisted physical anthropologist in recordation of human skeletal remains in collections in compliance with NAGPRA. As a certified physical anthropologist with the state of Illinois, was involved with several excavations and analysis of human skeletal remains whenever necessary (March 1996-present).

Assisted archaeobotanist in sorting and identification of botanical materials recovered from flotation samples.
