The collections of the Illinois
Transportation Archaeological Research Program (ITARP) contain material
recovered from archaeological projects
located in the state of Illinois. These projects were conducted with the
oversight of Charles J. Bareis, the Illinois Archaeological Survey (IAS),
the Resource Investigation Program (RIP), the Historic Sites Survey (HSS),
and ITARP.
-
The collections are securely housed in two buildings on the campus of the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
-
ITARP staff may access the
collections via the Curator Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:30
am–3:30 pm. If the curator is unavailable, requests
may be made to the Collections Specialist or the Lab Director.
-
If needed, collections may be removed to a staff person's work area. They
will be checked out under that person's responsibility until they are returned
to their long-term storage location.
-
Care should be taken when handling artifacts. Do not handle artifacts with
wet or dirty hands.
-
. If an artifact or document becomes broken or damaged, please notify the
curator immediately.
-
Please return the collection to the curator when use is completed. Please
maintain the collection in the same form received, i.e., same box, tray,
etc. Any alterations to the collection will need to be agreed upon beforehand
with
the curator and may entail additional work upon the part of the staff person
using the collection. It is important to ensure that these important collections
are maintained and preserved. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
