The "Science Looks at Art: Insights" exhibit was held at the Krannert Art Museum at the University of Illinois November 15-December 21, 1986. A catalogue with the same name was published by the Museum (Board of Trustees, University of Illinois, 1986).

Two of the objects featured in the exhibit were published in technical journals:

V. Vitali, J. Darcovich, and W. Williams, "X-ray Radiography of a gui vessel in the Krannert Art Museum Collection," Journal of the International Institute of Conservation-Canadian Group 10-11 (1986) pp. 3-7.

V. Vitali, J. Darcovich, and W. Williams, "Construction of a Fudo-Myoo Sculpture: An X-ray Radiographic Study," Studies in Conservation 31 (1986) pp. 185-189.

All of the objects in the "Insights" exhibit are also discussed in Wendell William's chapter "Science and the Art Museum; The Analysis of Archaeological Materials," in the book Ancient Technologies and Archaeological Materials (Gordon and Breach Science Publishers, 1994).

Project personnel for the exhibit and accompanying analytical work were: Margaret Sullivan, Mark Johnson, and Jane Darcovich (Krannert Art Museum); Vanda Vitali (University of Toronto); Wendell Williams (former director of the Program on Ancient Technologies and Archaeological Materials); Richard Keen (College of Veterinary Medicine); John Steele and Richard Cahill (Illinois State Geological Survey). The on-line exhibit was produced and designed by Brad Whitmore (Department of General Engineering).

Funding for this exhibit was provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the University of Illinois Research Board.
